Former Southeastern Channel news reporter-anchor-producer Amanda Kitch had her first story as Louisiana Weekend Reporter air on WAFB-TV (CBS) Ch. 9 in Baton Rouge recently. Her story on the Red Stick Social, a new social house in downtown Baton Rouge converted from an old electrical depot and ice factory was Kitch’s first feature at WAFB as Louisiana Weekend Reporter-Producer. In her new role in the Creative Services department at WAFB News, Kitch produces, writes, reports, shoots, edits and does on-camera work as in her story touting the Red Stick bowling lanes. For Louisiana Weekend Kitch covers the top entertainment, food, travel, and fun spots and hangouts in the Louisiana community with her stories airing every Friday at 5 pm. on WAFB. Kitch, who was hired by WAFB in March and graduates May 18th from Southeastern with a Communication degree in Film/Video/TV, was a national award-winning news reporter-anchor for the Southeastern Channel’s “Northshore News” student newscast. She was named 1st Place Best College News Reporter in the nation in 2017 by College Broadcasters, Inc. at the National Student Production Awards and a year later won 2nd in the country in the same category. Kitch has won multiple top honors for both her reporting and videography from the Society of Professional Journalists Mark of Excellence Awards, Southeast Journalism Conference “Best in the South” awards, Louisiana-Mississippi Associated Press College Broadcasters, and Suncoast Emmy Awards of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
