The Southeastern Channel has been honored by the prestigious Society of Professional Journalists with seven first-place Winner awards and three second-place Finalist awards at its regional 2019 Mark of Excellence Awards competition for Region 12 made up of all colleges in Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas and Tennessee. For the third straight year the Southeastern Channel took home more winners in the television and videography categories than any other school in the region, winning 7 first-place awards in the 10 categories. The channel’s Dylan Domangue won three first-place awards for “Television Sports Reporting,” “Broadcast Sports Videography”, and “Broadcast News Videography.” John Sartori and Kaylee Normand of Mandeville won first place for “Television News Magazine” for the channel show, “Southeastern Times”, while Normand won first place for “Television Feature Reporting.” Brian Williams of Baton Rouge won first place for “Television General News Reporting” and finalist recognition for “Broadcast News Videography”. Richie Solares of New Orleans won first place for “Broadcast Feature Videography” while John Williams of Denham Springs was named a finalist for “Television Feature Reporting”. The Southeastern Channel student news staff won a second-place finalist award for “Best All-Around Television Newscast” for “Northshore News.” First-place winners are eligible for the national SPJ Mark of Excellence Awards.
