For the eighth year in a row, the Southeastern Channel has been honored by the Suncoast Emmys of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. Earlier this week the Emmys announced three Southeastern Channel winners of its annual Student Production Awards in the college division. Winning were student reporter, anchor and play-by-play announcer John Sartori in the “Talent” category for his on-camera talent composite along with reporter, producer, videographer and editor John Williams in the “News: General Assignment-Light News” category for his feature story, “July 4th in Baton Rouge.” Also winning was the Oct. 12, 2019 football broadcast of Southeastern vs. Incarnate Word in the “Sports-Live Event” category. Sartori, as the play-by-play announcer, along with color analyst Richie Solares, sideline reporter Gabby Cox, and producer-director Dylan Domangue were leaders of the game broadcast which streamed live on ESPN-Plus. Other student crew members were Williams, Jermaine Kelly, Richie Cruz, Ross Chauvin, Lily Gayle, Tyler Thomas, Taylor Tabb, Logan Graffia, and Angela Imbraguglio. “The Big Game”, the Southeastern Channel’s live, weekly sportscast, was nominated for a Student Production Award in the “Sports Program” category. The Southeastern Channel has now won 20 awards from the Emmys with 67 nominations over the past 15 years. This year marked the second time that Sartori has been honored by the Emmys in the “Talent” category.
