Southeastern Channel reporter-videographer-editor Dylan Domangue has been honored with a first-place national Mark of Excellence Award given by the prestigious Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ). Domangue won first place in the nation in the “Broadcast News Videography” category of the “Videography” division for his story, “Mayor’s Salary Debate“, for the Southeastern Channel’s student newscast, “Northshore News.” Domangue also won another national SPJ award- second place in the nation in the “Broadcast Sports Videography” category for his shooting of the Southeastern vs. Northwestern State football game in October 2019.
Other Southeastern Channel students winning second place in the nation were John Sartori and Kaylee Normand in the “Best All-Around Television News Magazine” category for a November 2019 episode of “Southeastern Times.” Sartori and Normand co-anchored the show and reported all of the stories appearing in the episode. Domangue, Normand and Sartori all qualified for the national Mark of Excellence Awards by winning first place in their categories in the Region 12 SPJ competition which included all schools in Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, and Tennessee.
