Four Southeastern Channel students have been named winners of the prestigious Emmy Student Scholarship given by the Suncoast Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for the 2022-2023 academic year. Alexis Genovese of Amite and Ian Nicoll of Covington were both awarded maximum $5,000 scholarships for the coming school year while Taylor Nettle of Lacombe won a $3,500 scholarship and Wesley Ennis of Baton Rouge earned a $2,500 award. The scholarships are presented annually to top television students from universities in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana, and Puerto Rico, and this year a total of 27 students from the region were awarded $93,000 in scholarships. It was the largest number of Southeastern Channel students winning Emmy scholarships in the same year as Channel students have won nine Emmy scholarships over the past five years. This year the Southeastern Channel had the second largest number of scholarships awarded (4) behind only the University of Miami (5), but more than the University of Florida (2) and Florida State University (2). Winning students had to have a 3.5 grade point average with a declared major in television or broadcast journalism. Applicants also submitted essays and were interviewed several times by Emmy-winning professional judges.
