Former Southeastern Channel news anchor-reporter Paul Rivera, now an anchor-reporter for WIS-TV (CBS) in Columbia, S.C., recently spoke with Southeastern Channel students at the University Center. Rivera detailed his craft of anchoring and reporting and shared valuable tips for getting a job and succeeding in the industry. He also shared some high-profile experiences from WIS-TV and his first job after graduation at KLTV (ABC) in Tyler, Tx.,such as anchoring the Amtrak train crash in Columbia, S.C. in February and reporting on the Great Flood of 2016 in Baton Rouge for WAFB (CBS). Rivera won numerous awards at the Southeastern Channel, including 2015 Student Broadcaster of the Year given by the Louisiana Association of Broadcasters.
