Students from the Southeastern Channel won four top awards at the annual Louisiana-Mississippi Associated Press College Broadcasters competition held recently in Jackson, Ms. Andrew Scherer of New Orleans, a reporter for “The Big Game” student sportscast, won first place for “Best Sports Story” with a feature story about Lion basketball player Marlain Veal. Scherer is now a news-sports reporter at WXXV-TV Ch. 26 in Gulfport. “The Big Game” won second place for “Sportscast or Sports Program” while the Channel also won in two other categories. Amanda Kitch of Covington won second place for both “Videography” and “TV Reporter“, an award she’s won now for three years in a row.
