Southeastern Channel film directors Jeremy Gaines and John Austin Williams have won a Bronze Remi Award at the 50th WorldFest International Film and Video Festival for their short film, “Blink.” Gaines, now a freelance filmmaker in Hollywood, was the Producer, Writer, and Co-Director for “Blink”. Williams, currently a student at the Southeastern Channel, served as Co-Director, Director of Photography and Editor for the film. Conrad Carriere handled the visual effects while the Southeastern Channel’s Jordan Alfred directed the fight choreography. “Blink”, a fantasy-thriller, stars Jeremey Watkins, Nuhi Aziri, and Helen Launey. WorldFest is the oldest independent film festival in North America and presented the first awards to young filmmakers Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorcese, Ridley Scott, and the Coen Brothers, among others. A May 2019 graduate of Southeastern, Gaines worked as a video producer for Performance Contractors in Baton Rouge before moving to Hollywood. At the Southeastern Channel, he produced, wrote, shot, edited, created visual effects, and acted in his original supernatural thriller series, Darkstalkers. He wrote, directed and acted in vignettes for the student comedy show, “College Night”, honored with first in the nation for “Video Comedy” by College Broadcasters, Inc., and he also won national finalist recognition from CBI for his public service announcement, “Proud Dad.” Williams won national finalist at CBI’s Visual Media Festival recently for his short film, “Side Effects.” Both Gaines and Williams shot and edited a variety of Southeastern Channel projects, including music events, lectures, and forums.
