Former Southeastern Channel sports reporter-anchor Richie Mills is reporting on New Orleans area sports daily for WGNO-TV Channel 26 (ABC) in New Orleans (DMA 50). As Sports Reporter-Anchor at WGNO, Mills reports on local professional, college and high school sports each day for WGNO’s “Sports Zone” and the “News With a Twist” newscast in addition to serving as a fill-in anchor on weekends. Some of his recent stories have been about Country Day’s volleyball tradition, the new basketball coach at John Curtis, Southeastern Lions football practicing amid Covid-19 concerns, the lost beach volleyball seasons at Southeastern and UNO, a virtual race for the WWII Museum, and remembering South Lafourche veterans. Mills took over his current Sports MMJ position after one year of serving as Morning News Producer of WGNO’s morning newscasts. A 2015 graduate of Southeastern, Mills moved to New Orleans from Shreveport (DMA 82) where he was a news reporter for KTBS-TV Channel 3 (ABC) as the station’s East Texas Correspondent. Prior to that, he was Morning Show news producer at KATC-TV Channel 3 (ABC) in Lafayette (DMA 120) where his morning newscast won first place in the Associated Press Louisiana-Mississippi Broadcasters competition. At the Southeastern Channel, Mills was reporter-anchor for “Northshore News” and reporter-anchor-producer for “The Big Game” sportscast, winning national honors from the Videographer Awards and regional Mark of Excellence honors from the Society of Professional Journalists.
