Former Southeastern Channel news and sports reporter-anchor Gabby Cox, now a news reporter-anchor for WXXV-TV Ch. 25 (FOX/NBC) in Gulfport/Biloxi, Ms., has been providing storm coverage for Gulf Coast viewers since she began with the station last June. Her anchoring included a story about Comeback Coolers aiding Hurricane Laura victims, and her reporting on Hurricane Sally featured stories on storm damage in Jackson County, and Coast Electric crews providing storm relief. A May 2020 graduate of Southeastern, at the Southeastern Channel Cox served as reporter-anchor for the national award-winning student newscast, “Northshore News” where newscasts featuring her as anchor and reporter received a special national honor from the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) as one of the top three in the country for College Coronavirus Coverage. Her newscasts also won first place “Best of Show in Television” and first place for “Best Newscast” awarded by the Louisiana-Mississippi Associated Press College Broadcasters for 2020. Cox’s “Northshore News” also brought home SPJ Region 12 (Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, Tennessee) honors as “Best Overall College Newscast” this year. Cox has also been honored as a sportscaster at the Southeastern Channel as her anchoring and reporting for the live student sportscast, “The Big Game”, enabled the show to win first place this year for “Best Sportscast” at the Louisiana-Mississippi AP College Broadcasters competition and also National Finalist recognition at the National Student Electronic Media Awards presented by College Broadcasters, Inc. Her sideline reporting contributed to multiple national awards for the Southeastern Channel’s live game broadcast of the 2019 Southeastern football game with Incarnate Word streamed for ESPN-Plus, including a Student Production Award from the Suncoast Emmys and national finalist (top four in the nation) honors given by both the College Sports Media Awards (CSMA) and the Broadcast Education Association (BEA). Cox also handled color analyst duties for Southeastern Channel live broadcasts of soccer games.
