The Southeastern Channel has been honored with 1st Place in the nation in three different categories by College Broadcasters, Inc. at its 2020 National Student Production Awards ceremony. The Channel won first place in the “Best Video Hard News Reporting” category for reporter Chris Rosato’s “Northshore News” story, “Toxic Algae in Lake Pontchartrain.” Winning best in the nation in the “Best Video Sportscast” category was the November 21, 2019 episode of the channel’s live weekly sportscast, “The Big Game.” Also winning first in the nation in the “Best Video Public Service Announcement” category was Cameron Pittman’s PSA, “Gunny McShoot!” The Southeastern Channel’s three first-place awards were the most by any university in the television and video competition from over 1,000 entries across the U.S. The Channel has now won 10 first place national awards given by CBI. Two other Southeastern Channel productions received National Finalist honors for placing among the top four in the country. The Channel won third place for “Best Video Feature News Reporting” for a feature story produced by John Williams for “Northshore News” entitled “July 4th in Baton Rouge.” Dylan Domangue’s personal documentary, “12 seconds at Birth”, placed fourth in the nation for “Best Video Documentary.”
