For the ninth time, the Southeastern Channel has won 1st Place as “Best College Television Station in the South” out of over 40 universities covering an eight-state region of the U.S., including Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. The award was presented at the 2020 “Best of South Awards” given by the Southeast Journalism Conference (SEJC) in a virtual ceremony. The Southeastern Channel student newscast, “Northshore News”, also won 1st Place as “Best College Video News Program in the South”, the seventh time that the Southeastern Channel has won for best newscast. In the individual award categories, a second-place “Best of South” award went to Kaylee Normand of Mandeville, who won as “Best TV Journalist”. Chris Rosato of Mandeville won third place “Best in the South” for “Best TV Hard News Reporter”. Cameron Pittman of Franklinton won fifth place “Best in the South” for “Best Advertising Staff Member” for his Southeastern Channel PSAs. It was the second straight year that Rosato was honored by the SEJC, having won third place “Best in the South” honors for “Best TV Journalist” in 2019.
