Former Southeastern Channel videographer-editor John Austin Williams has been hired as Promotions Producer for WGMB-TV Ch. 44 (FOX)/WVLA-TV Ch. 33 (NBC) in Baton Rouge, La. (DMA 91). A May 2021 graduate of Southeastern, Williams writes, produces, directs, shoots, and edits commercials and promotional spots for the station. At the Southeastern Channel, Williams became the first two-time student Emmy winner in Southeastern Channel history and the first to win Emmy Awards in two different categories. In 2020 Williams won a student Emmy in the “News: General Assignment- Light News” category for his cinematic feature story, “July 4th in Baton Rouge” for the Southeastern Channel’s award-winning newscast, “Northshore News”. Williams was reporter, producer, videographer, and editor of the package, his first story ever produced by “Northshore News.” In 2021 Williams won his second Emmy in the category of “Directing” for his short film, “The Overthinker”, a 4-minute dramatic film composed entirely in one shot. Williams had major contributions as a videographer for national award-winning Southeastern Channel live game broadcast productions for ESPN+ and for the student sportscast, “The Big Game.” He shot and edited numerous lectures, forums, and live events, including music events. He also directed, shot, and edited comic vignettes and full episodes of the channel’s award-winning comedy show, “College Night”. As a student filmmaker, Williams won recognition for his short film, “Side Effects”, as one of the top four short films in the nation at the Visual Media Festival presented by College Broadcasters, Inc. He was honored along with co-director and fellow channel filmmaker Jeremy Gaines by the WorldFest International Film and Video Festival for their short film, “Blink.” Williams productions, videography, and directing won a bevy of other awards at the Southeastern Channel, including first-place honors from the Society of Professional Journalists and the Associated Press College Broadcasters, along with National Finalist recognition from College Broadcasters, Inc.
