Southeastern Channel sports reporter Taylor Nettle of Lacombe has been named Student Broadcaster of the Year in Television by the Louisiana Association of Broadcasters (LAB) recently at their 2023 Prestige Awards luncheon in Baton Rouge. Nettle is the seventh Southeastern Channel student to win the award in the 10 years it has been given by the LAB. Nettle was selected by LAB television and radio professionals from all student broadcasters in Louisiana. A former sports reporter, anchor, and studio director for the channel’s live sportscast, “The Big Game”, Nettle was also a sideline reporter and live broadcast director for national award-winning, Southeastern Channel live game broadcasts of all Southeastern sports streaming live on ESPN+.
In addition, Nettle was a news anchor-reporter for the channel’s national award-winning newscast, “Northshore News”, where she was honored from among 400 students from 38 universities in eight states at the Southeast Journalism Conference with second place as “Best TV Journalist in the South” and “Best Overall College Journalist in the South.” Nettle also produced, wrote, directed, acted, shot, and edited short films, entertainment shows, and commercials at the Southeastern Channel. A May graduate of Southeastern, she will begin her new job as sports reporter-anchor for the Shreveport, La. area’s top sports station, KTAL-TV Ch. 6 (NBC) , where she will report on college, high school, and professional sports in Louisiana, Texas, and Arkansas for nearly one million viewers daily in the Nielsen-rated market size.
