Former Southeastern Channel news and sports reporter-anchor Tristyn Turner has been hired as a Multimedia Journalist by WBRZ-TV Ch. 2 (ABC) in Baton Rouge, La. (DMA 94). Turner is a general assignment reporter and weekend anchor for WBRZ news. Some of his recent WBRZ stories include the widening of I-10 in Baton Rouge, the tragedy of a 17-year-old woman shot and killed on I-110, LSU baseball fans tailgating for the Super Regional, and the closing of a popular Baton Rouge snowball stand.
A December 2022 graduate of Southeastern, Turner was an anchor-reporter for the national award-winning student newscast, “Northshore News.” This spring Turner was honored with third place as “Best TV Journalist in the South” and fourth place as “Best TV News Reporter in the South” from nearly 400 entries at the Southeast Journalism Conference, made up of 40 universities from Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas, Tennessee, Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina. Turner also was a regular reporter, anchor, and videographer for the award-winning, live student sportscast, “The Big Game”. For his story on the SLU vs. Southern soccer match, Turner won a second-place “Mark of Excellence” award for “Broadcast Sports Videography” given by the Society of Professional Journalists in Region 12 comprised of universities from Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, and Tennessee. Turner also served as a key camera operator for live Southeastern Channel game broadcasts of all Southeastern sports streaming live on ESPN+, including the November 11, 2022 football game broadcast of the Southeastern vs. Northwestern State game which recently won a student Emmy from the Suncoast Region of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
